June 2018

We sometimes meet people in our daily lives who may irritate us in some way.  Sometimes it is quite difficult to know why this is the case. But everyone, at some point, will come across someone whom they don’t get on with as well as with others.  In A Course in Miracles, Jesus has the remedy for this. He asks us to remember that the Holy Spirit is in everyone and also to remember that we are all God’s Son, therefore we are all brothers. “Say, then, to everyone: Because I will to know myself, I see you as God’s Son and my brother.” Text, p.166. It is especially important to say this (mentally) when we are in the company of someone we may not like or not understand.

On the same page in the Text, Jesus reminds us that if we correct the errors of others, then we have listened to the ego, because the correction of so-called errors in others is something the ego tends to do. In fact, it is something we all do unless we are careful about mind-watching and have made non-judgement our goal. “To the ego, it is kind and right and good to point out errors and ‘correct’ them. This makes perfect sense to the ego…If you point out the errors of your brother’s ego you must be seeing through yours, because the Holy Spirit does not perceive his errors…When you react at all to errors, you are not listening to the Holy Spirit. He has merely disregarded them, and if you attend to them you are not hearing Him…” In other words, we are being asked not to judge the apparent mistakes of others and to overlook everything, remembering, instead, that everyone is a Son of God. That sums up forgiveness, according to Jesus in A Course in Miracles.
