The sun is always shining during the day. Now, many would disagree with this. But, if we think about it, no matter how cloudy or rainy the weather, the sun continues to beam its radiance down upon the Earth. It is the clouds and rain that block it from our awareness. But still it shines.
This thought led me to a parallel idea. Namely, God is always there—always sending us his radiant Love, but we have blocked that from our awareness by being preoccupied with our daily existence. The ego’s comings and goings, thoughts and desires are like a veil that conceals God from us, just as the clouds conceal the sun. But still God sends us His radiant Love.
What we have to do is to find a way to pierce the ego’s veil. Perhaps by slowing down, by spending some time in nature, by studying spiritual texts, by prayer, meditation or contemplation. Anything that interrupts the ego’s usual daily routine.
A Course in Miracles tells us that we need to, “remove the blocks to the awareness of Love’s presence.” This refers to all the thoughts in the egoic mind that block out God. We can only do that if we have a break from our daily schedule. It also helps if we watch our minds for thoughts of condemnation and judgement, and replace them with forgiveness.
The sun is always shining.
God is always there.
