A Course in Miracles (ACIM) deals at great length with the concept of all our minds being joined at some level. It was, therefore, of interest to be to find this mentioned in Thom Hartmann’s excellent book, The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight. He was advising his readers to find a spiritual path and said on page 240: “Find the path that works for you…Sit quietly and simply listen and see and feel—letting the internal chatter dissipate—for ten or twenty minutes each day. Since you and I and every other living thing are interconnected, your meditations will positively affect yourself and your reality, and send positive ripples of change throughout the world…”

Lesson 336 of ACIM is entitled: “Forgiveness lets me know that minds are joined.” In Lesson 19, we are told: “Today we are again emphasizing that fact that minds are joined…it is a fact that there are no private thoughts…”  Not only are our minds joined with everyone else’s mind, but they are also joined with God, according to ACIM. As Lesson 35 tells us: “My mind is part of God’s I am very holy.” And Lesson 45 is entitled: “God is the Mind with which I think.”

If our minds are joined, it follows that there is only One Mind. This is a belief that we find in a number of spiritual traditions. This concept is very clearly stated in the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita. In Chapter 13, verse 16, Krishna speaks about Brahman or God and says, “He is ONE in all, but it seems as if he were many….” and in verse 28 we read, “And when a man sees that the God in himself is the same God in all that is, he hurts not himself by hurting others: then he goes indeed to the Highest Path.” Not only do we see the same emphasis on the unity of all creation as we do in ACIM, but we also see that hurting others is deemed to be hurting oneself, which is exactly whatACIM teaches. It also says that when we forgive others, we are actually forgiving ourselves too. Similarly, when we judge others, we are judging ourselves.

To mention just one more spiritual tradition, the concept of the One Mind is embraced by Theosophy as well. I found the following passage on www.theosociety.org. “…Humanity is more closely joined inwardly than physically, and our thoughts and feelings have a potent impact on others. By following our highest inner promptings as best we can, we benefit our immediate surroundings and humanity as a whole…”  And that is exactly what author Thom Hartmann was saying in the passage quoted above.
